November 26th

CAMERA D'OR WINNER AT BFC!

BFC will host a talk with one of this year’s Cannes sensation – Samuel Theis and his film PARTY GIRL.

Samuel Theis co-written and co-directed this semi-autobiographical story about his mother Angelique, who also plays herself in the movie. Case study of Cannes’ Camera d'Or winner raises the question: how do you make a film with your own family, about your own family? Also, it vividly explores the process of creating fiction out of real events.

BFC PARTICIPANTS ANNOUNCED!

We are proud to announce that after careful consideration, the Selection Committee of the 1st Balkan Film Connection has chosen this year's participants.

Over 70 applications had arrived from all over the Balkans. After long days of readings, watching samples of work and discussions, we would like to point out that the Committee’s decisions have been difficult. The level of the most of the applicants was very high, but we had to narrow the list to 30 names.

Congratulations to all the participants!

For the ones that haven’t been selected this time, please bear in mind that we expect you to apply next year.

Read the list of the participants here.

October 23th

Sundance Winner Cutter Hodierne on BFC!

Cutter Hodierne won Best Directing Award at this year’s Sundance with his exciting Somali pirates drama FISHING WITHOUT NETS. Hodierne will talk about his specific directing approach and the process of extending his short film into a feature, since FISHING WITHOUT NETS started first as a short film that won Sundance Grand Jury Prize in 2012.

October 10th

Oscar Winning Director Danis Tanović Joins BFC!

Bosnian director Danis Tanović will present his latest film TIGERS, a moving true-life story shot in India. Among other things, we will discuss how much courage the director needs to start shooting in the environment and culture completely different from his own, and what were the challenges on that path.

October 6th

Alice Rohrwacher at Balkan Film Connection!

The Balkan Film Connection will host a talk with one of the extraordinary leading new voices of European cinema, Alice Rohrwacher. The talk will focus on artistic challenges of directing her new film, THE WONDERS, for which she won Grand Prix in Cannes this year. THE WONDERS will also be screened for the BFC participants.
